[Library] Granted

by Nikki Rice

I never knew that I could miss
a pressed-close body
the way I miss yours;
a touch I never thought I'd feel,
now burned into my flesh
like a branding, a tag.
It seems I'm yours for life.

Nobody ever loved this mess before;
my body, my mind,
this monster in the mirror.
Your kiss made me
the fairest of them all,
and I was awoken
from a quarter century sleep.

Your hands, your lips,
sandpaper breath in my ear;
a baritone whisper
that forced me to smile,
with soul agape
like a cozy black hole,
vulnerable as a broken child.

Curled up inside of me,
you ventured into stars and space
never before explored;
a fearless pioneer
who discovered a part of me
that I thought no man
had the will to face.
