Your Picture

by Joan Serratelli

I just saw
your picture
on a site
that I happened on

You and your children
staring at me
I just sat here
and stared
I wanted to cry
I wanted to shout
but instead I
just came here
to write

You used
to be my
daughter
you used
to be part
of my life
now you're just
a picture
not part
of my soul

How could this
have happened?
We were once
a family
now you're just
a picture
staring
right back
at me

No more tears
will I shed
for a love
that is lost
I have to go on
without you
in my life

Author's Note: I just ran across a picture of my oldest daughter on "Facebook". We have not talked in 3 years and I have no clue why.

Extraordinary and heartbreaking, and that refers to both the circumstances and the poem itself.

My heart aches for you Joan. Just keep loving her . Someday she'll realize what she is missing.

She will always be a part of your soul, the sheer emotion here proves that. Heartbreaking, i felt like crying myself as i read this.
