Death and Here After

by Christopher Shin

I wonder what is
worse the fire
of the damned?

Or the soul in
torment with
the uncertainties
of a life.

Forever in gnawing
agony as the mind
rushes for some
sort of peace that
the earth and the
stars cannot or
will not give.

Is the hanging
tree so evil,
and the powers
that be so
heartless?

To let a shade
of a man wander
this world in
such misery.

Will he or she
just falter and
let the end
be some sort
of ecstasy and joy.

Or is the brimstone
the only end for
a gift that has
turned pugnant and
foul in one's soul?

Some interesting questions, and you pose them quite well. Nice work.

It's the quest of mankind to understand what we will never understand. Like the search for that box of gold that was a story made up to keep us looking. Good write.
