Night & Day by Richard VinceThis city is a million vignettes
Over which most eyes pass
Without even a first thought.
My eyes are open to find them,
And my ears await their stories.
I’ll paint this town with
The breath they take away.
As night waits to follow day,
The lights become brighter
And so do I: my eyes widen
Along with my smile.
In daylight, I am noticed;
At night I become ignored and
Find a new sense of freedom.
This is yet another world
To add to the collection of
Fragments of stained glass that
Make the city colourful.
I never expected that a city
Would become my muse,
But whenever I immerse myself
In it and its people,
The words leap from me like
A mountain stream, full of life
As it begins its long journey.
And now my journey must continue,
Away from the stopped clock
And eccentric décor to
Where I sleep. I am not going
Home: I am there already.

Posted by Coleman Demiurge on 04/07/09 at 06:36 PM Wonderfully done. I love cities at night. I had to dodge gunfire occasionally to see them, but it was well worth it I'd say. You are exceedingly good at conveying images with words - it's really very impressive... A most excellent poem indeed. |
Posted by Laura Doom on 04/12/09 at 09:37 PM Sumptuous manipulation of metaphor; Joe Jackson would kill for this harmonious dichotomy :>) Worthy of the front page. |
