Lead Me Home

by Jessica A Steenbock

i slip further away each day,
dreaming of foreign places
and another life.
your hands hold me in this place
as your voice calls me home.
yet i still fall into another
void contemplating escape
with pictures of a new background
some landscape that allows a freedom
that is not here.
but your body pulls me here
and your voice calls me home.
i would trade the memories in this life
to experience the wonders of another,
but for you i wouldn't trade
a thousand lifetimes,
so i follow the whispers
of your breath and the melodies
of your song
as a child follows the piper.
i will continue down this path
as it lays before me
and rest in the delicate fingers
of a love that calls me home.
