I need, therefore, I want

by Jared Orlando

I need, therefore, I want, to be too dependent
And thus I depend on allowing myself to want
Anything, everything is deliberately teasing me
It’s dressed in your clothes, wearing your jewelry

I need, therefore, I wait, and every move
You make, or fail to make, I’m only steps behind
Your eyes contain the storm, as I’m pieces of wood
Swirling and breaking inside them, chaos in a globe

I need, therefore, I treasure such wants and needs
A child gathering his most precious polished stones
Faces displayed on each, with kisses for good luck
Stowed away for safe keeping; he knows only where it hides

I need, therefore, such dependencies have taken me
Lifted me and painstakingly plummeted me
Face first into my favorite rocks, and glass from a globe
That I must remove from my face and limbs

I need, therefore, I am desperate, clingy and lackluster
Comparing dreams with such bitter rough edges of parchment
It’s crumbling and burning and ashes keep things
A little bit more texturized and in focus

I need, therefore, I am too small for my own skin
Where’s the new chapter? Usher in some rising action
For this protagonist is loosing its edge
And the audience is becoming restless.

I love the deterioration of this, as it becomes a little more desperate with every stanza.
