My Great Accomplishment

by David Garner

In the middle of the test
At the hospital
I accomplish something which brings me much peace
In between the two constant states of discomfort and pain
I meditate
And during this meditation
I see pink Buddha, pink lotus
Floating around me, inside me
Electricity in the tubes, vibrations in my veins
And before I know it
The test is over
And that is my great accomplishment:
I smiled during a painful procedure at the hospital

I have gone though all kinds of supposedly painful procedures (spinal tap, childbirth, removal of a cyst) without any medication. I just keep telling myself that it'll be over soon...and it is! I don't do well with anaesthia. You are right- it is a great accomplishment! Good write- I can definately relate!
