A definition of I as it is written in 10 pages; page 2

by Vere Mantratriad

footfall seeks out deaf ears and
nothing ever ends as it all leaks out
it all escapes no matter how many
changes of guards we facilitate
no matter how many changes of
face and heart we try to fake it’s
all the same and never again
could you simulate what did not
have a place in existence in the
first place but where’s the
controversy then; whether sword,
pen or friend? whether falling for
a beginning or peaceful end
nothing will change inside these
bonded molecules we disguise as
bodies and still it remains to be
seen if there could be effect
even without cause, just or not
it has to be given up to the law
and passed on to those who
saw the wind for just a moment
whether or not it ever meant
to be caught it still occurred as
do I in the wild and the cold
and the growing old, as difficult
as it is to accept that we’re just
the waking dead on borrowed
and inconsequential time that
trickles over the thighs of a
thousand maidens still combing
their hair and waiting for a
dragon to take them hostage
and leave them buried there
where neither footprint nor
breath dare to tread if only
the spread could be avoided
if only we could spare the
sand from coming and filling
in the cracks that formed as
smile or wink or joke or
some other fleeting moment
and whether it is hostile or not
I cannot decide and will not and
could not but will forever question
my placement in a universe
stretched far too thin that we
are all so randomly thrown in
and somehow expected to make
it through to some other
supposed side
