Time Stamp: Any Day - It's Just the Same

by Jared Orlando

So I decided to start on
The letter that I’ll never send
One that I’ll keep to myself
Stowed away in the back of a drawer somewheres
To join the others because
That’s the only way I can keep these truths
Safe.
But it’ll be fine, because either way
You’ll have your own truths,
Your own outlooks on the matter,
If the matter even appeals to you.
It begins.

I remember the time-
I take it back-
I remember the times when
We stayed up far too late for anyone
And it was then that I
Learned so much about you;
You know, I don’t know if I was really listening
Because I was too fixed on your
Inflections, the way you enunciated so beautifully
Your perfectly spoken words,
Poetically breathing into my ears
With such flawlessly formed structure;
The way you would giggle so lightly
That I could actually feel your smile through
The airwaves, gently entering my consciousness.
While you spoke about your plans
About your dreams and your place
Your future and your past;
I was too busy falling in love, sort of speak;
The fact that my ears became so dependent
On every god damn word you said
My mind was forced to follow suit
My heart agreed to give in
And now my body still needs you
And my knees still shake for you
And my eyes still search for you
And my feet still follow you
And my lips still ache for you
And my distractions remain you, only you;
Wanting only ends in needing
And your absence only leads to desperation
But I’ll sign this unsent letter
With about the only thing I have left
A name
With absolutely no meaning behind it.
