Love Him...Hate Him

by Joan Serratelli

I love him
no matter
what he does
I love him

I hate him
no matter
what he does
I hate him

I love him
at night
when he cuddles into me
I love him

I hate him
during the day
when he hollers at me
I hate him

I love him
during the day
when he does little things for me
I love him

I love him
I hate him
I cannot decide
it doesn't really matter
'cause love and hate
reside
side by side

Author's Note: Both love and hate are passionate emotions. I believe that it is possible to feel both at the same time!

i agree that love/hate can reside in the heart at the same time. they are extremes of the same emotion, but not opposites. i like the back and forthing in this one. in short lines you paint a vivid emotional picture.

You definitely capture the conflict here. Very simple, very sharp language.

My mind would be breaking in the pendulum of it all.

This is so true of many relationships! I felt like picking the petals off a daisy... loves me! loves me not! I enjoyed this one.

Hmm -- this is the way I feel about myself; your version is more wholesome by half :)

I've never seen hate as an opposite of love. Rather, i see hate as a component of love. To me, you can only feel true hate for someone if you love them. As only a caring as deep as love can cause the pain needed to hate. But love is the more important of the two.
