when someone runs out of porridge

by Nanette Bellman

single strands of her golden blonde hair
were strewn across the road
from here to 2.63 miles down, where it ends
giving new meaning to Goldilocks.

the wind blows the remnants of this tragedy
any which way but loose.
when the sun is shining
and if the right moments collide together,
you can still see it glimmer
like it was left on her head
like there was a smile on her face
like this never had to happen.

an hour before, she drove this road.
with windows down, letting her hair
blow freely in the turbulence
of an almost spring time day.

when they found her, she was face down
on the dirt they like to call the side of the road
wearing nothing but bikini bottoms
and her heart was ripped from her chest.

Author's Note: someone is sleeping in my bed, and they're not still here.

I really don't know what to write. This is a very tragic tale- well written, albeit sad and haunting. Very well done- the images are vivid. Unfortunately, I can see this girl, dead with just her bikini bottoms on, lying on the side of the road. The last line really got too me. Excellent write as usual!

i like this. and all though i can see it all very well it mostly brought to mind, for me anyway, a bear gnawing on her missing heart, and someone in the distance trying to figure out why they kill. great write.

goldie locks never felt so good. Brutal.

As graphic and vivid as this piece is, it's the glimmering hair that's stuck in my mind's eye... But then, I've always been a closet romantic. ;o) Well done.

I want more of the story! I'm with Joan, wasn't quite sure what to say here.
