Sick

by Joan Serratelli

She's been sleeping
on the couch
all morning long
too sick to work
or even go home

It worries me
because she's been sick
for too long
tells me she's going
to the doctor
tomorrow
but I worry
she just won't bother

I love her so much
she has no idea
of just how
worried I am

She's moaning
and groaning
in her sleep
restless not restful
she's too young
to be this sick

She's my baby
the one born last
Please G-d; help her
get through this
It rips me apart
to see her this way!

Although I don't know what it feels like to worry about a child, I do know what it's like to be sick and and to worry about other loved ones such as my parents. You captured the semi-helpless feeling you get when you can't do anything but love them to help them along. Well done.
