I sleep with the lights on so I can scare myself away by Vere MantratriadI keep the closet secure no
matter what a joke they make
one can never be too careful
with all the monsters running
around these days and should
they come to find me I’ll be
sure it wasn’t from some
crawlspace or keyhole I know,
I know, I know, I know
they’ll come from my own
mind like they have before like
they always do when the
screeching isn’t so terrible and
I cannot be made up to fire
anymore fear like I wanted I
just lay down pull the covers
over my head, squeeze
my eyes shut and whisper
“please, just make it go away” 03/16/2009 Posted on 03/16/2009 Copyright © 2025 Vere Mantratriad

Posted by Joan Serratelli on 03/16/09 at 11:52 AM HA! I do the SAME thing. My husband is always making fun of me about the "boogyman" coming to get me! I really enjoyed this piece- it reminded me that I'm not as crazy as I think. Enjoyable read- great write! |
Posted by Nanette Bellman on 03/16/09 at 05:26 PM Vere, this is cute. Isn't it funny how when we're kids, we pull the sheets and/or covers over head and think that inch (at most) will keep us safe from the monsters? Haha. Great write and read. |
