I tried to walk a mile in your shoes, but you weren't gellin' by Vere Mantratriad“my mistake,”
she said to the man in the mask
a priest by vocation but a
drunk in truth as all holy men
are just waiting to turn
water into wine
it was only a supplemental reply
to a question over dining
two nuns in the corner snickered
as they watched a copy of the
vicar of dibley while enjoying a loaf
and I sat and smoked two feet
from the sign that thanked me
for not doing so
it was a momentous occasion
and we all paraded our Sunday best
and waited for the second line to reach us
but I wondered where the first had gone
maybe before us, maybe it would never come
but I took her mistake and I wrote it down
in a book and left it there
on the third row
hoping some day
someone would take it

Posted by Elizabeth Jill on 03/13/09 at 03:03 AM This will be in my mind all night. I love it. There's a sting in it that comes so matter-of-fact. I'm heady. |
