the religion your parents warned you about is between my lips by Ava BluI’m not going to throw up in your face
but I might not turn my cheek
when you go to kiss someone else
I’m awake at 2am again
with nothing but wine and nachos
on my breath
and it’s these things that make me wonder why
I don’t sleep
and why
I keep looking at a phone that never rings
when you’re around
so you seem to be the only one for me
and I seem to grow with anticipation
but this feels like a sermon,
like my mother is praying for me
on the floor next to our cum stain
perhaps I’m making some of this up,
making it twirl to tell a story
but the characters all represent me
and I doubt you’re one to understand
why I rename them
before you walk in my direction,
you better know the names of the roads
and how to distinguish between
yellow and green
it’s the lights that’ll kill you
even if the brightness is just
what you need
I can see the entire city in the background of your eyes
but something is off,
something is a tad slanted
and it isn’t making it art
the whole world is fucking subjective
and I don’t see the point in buying something
that I can make at home
but the whole future is able to be seen
below the tattoo on my back;
I’m just waiting for someone to
either wash it away
or dive right in.

Posted by Gabriel Ricard on 03/10/09 at 06:39 AM On the imagery alone, this is one of the strangest things I think you've ever written. But that's far from a bad thing. This is strange, brutal and some of your most interesting and well written work to date.
Posted by Joan Serratelli on 03/10/09 at 02:06 PM I agre with Gabe and Jon- this is an unusual piece from you, but fabulous just the same. Grest imagry. good read. A little strange, but really great write!

Posted by Anita Mac on 03/12/09 at 03:01 AM I may be with Nanette on this one... I don't think I've seen such eloquence and vulgarity mixed so perfectly before.
Posted by Tom Goss on 03/18/09 at 06:14 PM Brutalicious! Where's my diving board???
Posted by Ken Harnisch on 04/14/09 at 12:45 PM not brutal, but candid and refreshing for being so
