A Life In A Day by Joan SerratelliShe came into
this world
screaming
alone
She nursed at her
Mother's breast
and then she grew
She learned how to walk,
said a few words
and very soon
to feed herself
and then she grew
She started school.
nursery, then elementary
then high school
She got good grades
and then she grew
College was next
she earned a degree
graduated with
high honors
and then she grew
She started a career
met a guy
and got married
had a baby....
then two
She took time off
to raise them
as her Mother had done
she was getting older
but her life
had just begun
Her children grew up
(as all children do)
and followed
in her footsteps
She was now
growing old
Her children had children
and had their own lives
She was now a Grandmother
a new phase in her life
She got sick
her husband died
her children came home
to be by her side
She got sicker
and older
and finally
she died
screaming
alone.....
just as she had entered
this world

Posted by Gabriel Ricard on 03/07/09 at 06:08 PM I really like it. |
Posted by Genevieve Sturrock on 03/07/09 at 07:45 PM it is the knowledge that we all are alone that keeps me from being so overwhelmed with loneliness...especially in a crowd |
Posted by Gregory O'Neill on 03/07/09 at 09:57 PM I like your treatment of the theme very much...nice touch, Joan! Thanks. |
