One Bedroom Apartments

by Megan Guimbellot

It's strange how the shadows can linger after day break/ while the dust dances in the bands if sunshine that manage to snake their way through the curtains and blinds//and how the familiar lyrics can float so clearly up from the bottom floor of your shoebox apartment to your bed upstairs until i imagine music notes in the morning light winding up the stairs, twisting around the banister, and stopping on the ceiling to bob about like helium balloons and with the scratch of your beard against the soft of my neck i can feel you alive
breathe
in,out,and,up
goes my pulse and my heartbeat starts a tap dance against the more venerable parts of my insides and ribcage// if i could capture this moment on film I would be sure to use the best camera money could buy to freeze you just as you are/ asleep/ sleeping sound like I should be doing because it's seven a.m. and I have work in two hours/ the gin martinis kept us up in the night but why waste time in sleep when so little is gained and then you might move or stretch or sigh and with you it's all worth noticing.

Like noticing the way your eyelashes flutter as you dream of things I can only hope you dream and the morning birds take flight away while traffic noises tango with the music from below// And just few moments, just a few seconds in a lifetime can stand absolutely stonestill.
And here is the part where I could be wildly poetic and deep and whatnot and say that your eyes are like sapphires and your voice is an angel's but I don't like to lie and it wouldn't do you justice anyway because your eyes are lighter like my faded blue shirt you've watched me paint in a thousand times and your voice is rough and sends my skin into a frenzy when you speak real low// You're already poetry in your own way and this is a love poem in mine to the kind of desolate beauty you hold that one would never write sonnets for
But for you I will compose songs and stories, poems, epics and verse

For you I would do anything.
