Into Nebula by Alison McKenzieI depended on you
Like a sun, rising every morning,
I weighed everything
Against our future
And now there is none.
An equation where x = y
And now, the solution is 0.
We cross at the origin.
It’s where we met,
And where we parted.
Perpendicular, but independent lines.
I kept waiting for you to
Find another solution for “x”
You promised that was your intention
But some math is, by definition,
Just the way it is.
I hate you for going away.
I hate that our lines intersected at all,
Only to be at a 90 degree angle
Forever.
I’ve been looking for another way
Because I can’t catch my breath
And the tears,
Run on a negative slope
Inconsistent,
Throwing everything
Right off the graph into nebula.
Oh, but that is another discipline,
And I am still a novice.

Posted by Mary Frances Spencer on 03/05/09 at 06:23 AM Yes.... words and math do occasionally and wonderfully intersect! Love this!!! MFS |
Posted by George Hoerner on 03/05/09 at 01:21 PM Life is inconsistent m'lady. Unfortunately!! Good write! |
Posted by Joan Serratelli on 03/05/09 at 01:26 PM Heartfelt, honest write. The math is very appropriately written in. I agree with George- life is inconsistant- but hopefully not boring! Great write- loved the entire piece. |
Posted by Charlie Morgan on 03/05/09 at 03:33 PM ...geometrically speaking this is sine =+ cosine to the 10th power, and that is with an erg and a pi-meson, too pitch in a few quarks...ali, i love the play on conceptual fields, a soul-ful write, well slanted. |
