Is Is

by Alison McKenzie

Surrounded by nothing
There is so much space between
The You and the I of it

Author's Note: Thinking about the physics of everything - there is always so much more space than matter. It's mind boggling.

Alas, a desert more vast than the Sahara at times.

It is strange isn't it, that the atoms we are made up of contain so much space between their own parts it's like the distance of the earth to the moon between electron and nucleus or something crazy like that, and on top of that atoms are made up of sub atomic particles and who knows how much infinitely smaller it gets. Hard to fathom but seems the infinitely small is no smaller or bigger than the infinitely BIG hahaha I guess it's good for us that unbelievably small particles containing enormously large spaces inside them are themselves seperated by space and not touching each other, otherwise I suppose we would still be as big as the condensed pinhead the moment before the BIG BANG! Well, you got me thinking anyway, I really like the reduction of such a LARGE idea. Nicely done! :-)

Another great write, your ponderings are creating excellent poetry. smh

*zap*pow*pow* Now that I've cleared a little space before an admin zap, I really enjoyed this Ali. When you're looking down the list of comments, just remember to be grateful... could have been you leaving a derogatory comment for someone instead of a blank space! ;-D Love ya!

Hi Alison, Great write. Yeah, it does make ya wonder and ponder. :)

I just had to come back and let you know that [ ] was a theme of the day for me yesterday by the sharing of your poetry, making a space for the space of a space. Someone I highly respect spoke on it and we all seemed led to agree, it's the space of grace. I'm sorry my first comment was a filling of space with something other than the recognition that some spaces that matter hold little grace at all and I missed an opportunity to expand it in a fellow poet. Ah well. Live and learn. Truly, I am invalid.

Possibly the most difficult type of poetry to master is minimalism (perhaps this is why so few make the attempt). Using this style to write about space is inspired. Congrats on an excellent write!
