The Value of Friendship

by Don Matley

Sharing humour others miss
Laughing simultaneous
Touching to commiserate
Staying up so very late
Having nothing much at all to do
Attending events impromptu
Giving in to human weakness
Staying warm in the bleakness
Loving and respecting each the other
As a sister does a brother
Sharing hurt and failure too
Unashamed to speak so true
Celebrating mutual successes
With the slightest of caresses
Thinking of each when far away
Returning to share the light of day

Saying goodnight, waving goodbye
Taking different roads we dare not deny
Comforting in knowing at this time of loss
That our paths in life at least did cross.
