I Just Don't Know

by Joan Serratelli

I just don't know
what holds us together
the glue is wearing thin

I tried to leave
you pulled me back
"Let's compromise"
you said

But compromise is hard
harder than you think
I am who I am
and
you are who you are
and never the twain
shall meet

We shouldn't be together
we both know
that is the truth
but we'll go on
until death
does us part
which might be sooner
than you think

Tragic and incredibly well realized. The imagery and language is simple, but it sticks with you as well as anything could.

Ah yes, "compromise"! It always seems to mean please change to be how I want you to be and I'll love you forever.

so long as you don't help each other to the 'death do us part' part...lol! but seriously, finding common ground on a path you have both walked together can be difficult. especially if one or both have decided that the current path is not headed in the right direction.

At least you are self-empowered enough to be ABLE to go if you really needed, to. Continued strength, my friend. Thanks.
