If I were a Womb by Alison McKenzieSacred seed, my door is open.
Pulse of my velvet nurture anticipates
Blood born of eternal cycles
For you, only for you.
I have shed my walls to bare,
Fertility’s richness set aside
To grow you, to cushion away
The commotion of the realms without.
I will stretch to embrace you,
Use all my strength for your protection,
Filter away the poison of your new world
To ensure your safe debut.
And when I must surrender
To your leave,
I will force you to emerge
In the gentle throes of accouchement.
When you are gone from me,
I will bleed to fade,
Returning, again, to the dimensions
Of your mother’s solidarity.
