mixed messages by Mary Frances Spenceryes no
unable to commit
perhaps or maybe
no one knows why
everyone forgot
too many passwords
little free time
up or down
steadily numbed
out-numbered
mixed messages
online or texting
roaming charges
disconnected
difficult to see
the obvious
digital age
unlimited access
credit
now declined
minds spinning
hands free

Author's Note: It seems like with all of the internet at our fingers we could get our act together, but maybe it's all too much. Feedback??? I'm finally busting through this writer's block... MFS

Posted by Alison McKenzie on 03/02/09 at 09:54 AM GREAT plays on words here, Mary. It's so easy to see (hehe, pun not necessarily intended) that the face-to-face meeting carries with it the benefits of tone-of-voice and expression, which are, in my opinion, far superior to anything that can be misconstrued in text/chat/email. Clever and true observations of these technologies! |
Posted by Rhiannon Jones on 03/02/09 at 12:27 PM Weren't technological advances supposed to make life easier? In the information-overload-age, sometimes I've gotta unplug just to stay sane. |
Posted by Gabriel Ricard on 03/02/09 at 02:03 PM It's an old rant, I suppose, but you still manage a unique and well-written spin on it. Nicely done. |
Posted by George Hoerner on 03/02/09 at 03:10 PM Cute and very nicely done MFS! Everythings is done now in nanoseconds. I can barely keep up with this site let alone my email, facebook, etc. Good write. |
