It could've been the first chapter; instead she closed the book.

by Jared Orlando

It was time for a break, and our best bet out of state
Trying to escape all things that made us hesitate,
And once we did ,we knew it was fate,
We belonged just where we were.

It was mid-winter when we decided to retreat,
For cooler breezes with time’s sands under our feet,
And upon that stretch of earth we took a seat,
And took sweet breaths of air together.

You left every care and worry down by the ocean,
And instead held on to every emotion,
Once your sweet head was free of all commotion,
My hand grasped your hand.

By god was it so cold, too cold to be,
Two people, this couple, spending time by the sea,
But hell with the norm, and I know she’ll agree,
That no weather could blister such love.

One kiss ushered in this new kind of feeling,
And such a touch was no less than revealing,
Which could only lead to my kneeling,
To keep her for all time.

A look of surprise appeared on her face,
As all sounds left that coastal place,
She left me there to sigh and brace,
When I was told there was someone else.

What a bittersweet piece! She should have told you sooner. The water is usually a calming romantic place- even in the winter. Good write. Sorry things didn't quite work out!
