Nothing To Do With The Water

by Ken Harnisch

I would hold her
At both our perils
I know

Not going to happen;
We’re two too smart people

Wise enough to keep
Hyperbole chained inside
And feelings aloft
In words
We wrap in meter
And sell as fresh-baked bread

Doesn’t mean I don’t dream
And that she doesn’t know it

Doesn’t mean she doesn’t wonder
And likes being here with me

It’s enough to keep
Us coming back
To the well
To sate a thirst
Whose sweetness
Has nothing to do
With the water.

Great metaphor, just enough play on words and friendly infatuation to keep it interesting...smh
