The One by Tony Whitaker
Most everyone someday laments
About a love they call “The One”
“The One” haunts their heart
With tormented belated regrets
“The One” fills their memories and
“The One” they can’t forget
They endeavor to find another
But never to be outdone
For the memories will fill their days
And a want for another run
And if that chance were given,
Their actions would then commit
To have and hold, hug and kiss
To remove any worldly threat
So if “The One” is in your life
Never give them reason to run
Now as I reflect on that special person
“The One” I loved and lost
To return to that time
To relive those days
This time I would not falter
I would fully give my life and love
No matter what the cost
And to smile as I see her walk to me
As I stand upon the altar
Now twenty years have disappeared
“The One” has long been gone
And though now I love another
My memories of “The One” live on

| Posted by Joan Serratelli on 02/25/09 at 05:09 PM I was lucky enough to marry "THE ONE"....the second time around. We might have our differences, but after 41 years of knowing him, I still love him. We're 2 very different people, but still.....
Enjoyed the read. Great write! |
| Posted by George Hoerner on 02/25/09 at 09:22 PM Good write Tony. I look back over 50 years and see a number of "ones" for which I am grateful. But the one I'm with has weathered the good, the bad, and the ugly. And I would not give her up unless she decided to go and for her to make that choice I would honor her decision. |
