it is mine.

by Shy Leigh

i have given everything away

and if you fall down
i cannot help you up
but i will lie down beside you
and writhe in the sunlight
and let God take my last
parched breath
from my dry and bleeding lips,
(from whence I had tried
to breathe life back into you)
and i will die with you,
but i cannot save you,
because i have nothing left to give

i have reached the
bottom of the well
hollow, silence
echoing off the filthy walls
and it is empty
and it is dark
and there is nothing
left to dip out
except the mud
and it is mine to drink
and not to share.

it is mine.

Author's Note: Apparently my Mom's passing away has inspired me to write again. This is how I felt after four years of caretaking, and losing my Mom no matter how hard I tried to keep her alive.

it's pain-stakingly beautiful.
