Reality
by Vikki OwensIts enough to make your hands start shaking,
its enough to make you believe that you've been
under some form of anesthesia,
yet walking around doing things,
walking around hand in hand
with a person
who is not a person
but an ideal.
Its enough to make you think you've been seeing things,
when you havent really been seeing things,
things have a way of simply being things,
people have a way of seeming...
and people have a way of believing
in whatever someone else
seems to be seeming.
and its enough to make you
think you know a person
and make him lunches to take to the places
that you think he's going
in the seemingly happy contented way
that a person who feels as if she's in love would do.
Humming along, performing daily tasks
as if the house she lives in
is a reality, and the reality is one she feels as if she is in.
but sometimes
you can feel as if you are darting in and out
of that reality
like a sewing needle
pulling the thread of your existence with you,
in and out
in and out
sewing what is
and what seems to be
together
to form a relationship.

We sew it together piece by piece and only have a problem when a thread doesn't stay in place as we expected it to do. |
| Posted by Alison McKenzie on 02/24/09 at 03:35 PM The cessation is just as horrible, to lay down that needle once and for all, and stop weaving a life together, the garment half sewed, and the fabric that will never be worn, or the vibrant thread that will be put aside forever. You think you want to know the truth. You know you have to learn the truth of it, but the seeming is so much more lovely. I am in awe of your talent with metaphors. |
