we are not ready for anyone else by Ava Blu
there is nothing like the feeling of
being accepted by someone new,
someone who you once thought
never really wanted you
and I imagine it feels even better
when your fears subside
and some other feeling takes over
it’s the simplest idea,
the easiest way to be,
yet the hardest to understand
we are like burnt toast,
made better the darker we are
drowned in butter to keep us unhealthy
for everyone else except each other
and I believe that’s why we are able to feel something
when the world tells us we should feel nothing.

| Posted by Gabriel Ricard on 02/23/09 at 09:04 PM I love that burnt toast image. The whole poem is sweet, gentle, never going overboard with either of those things (which is often very easy to do), and that image keeps in tune with that, but it also works in some of your humor. I like that, and I really like what you've done here. |
