Have I Lost You?

by Joan Serratelli

Have I lost you
thiss time forever?
or will this
come to pass
Our differences
need to be settled
not simply thrown out
in the trash

Have I lost you
this time forever?
I simply can't bear the thought
losing you would be tragic
and I'd never get over the pain

Have I lost you
thid time forever?
Please tell me "NO!"
I love you so much
and couldn't go on
without you

I would dwell
on the past
and think about better times
but I lose you
a part of my soul

You are my life
my heart
my reason for being
my reason for living
for smiling
for lauging
I cannot lose you
forever
please tell me it isn't true

I can feel your agony, Joan. I hope it works out!

We can feel hurt and trapped, yet I think we, each must get to that point where tenderness emerges from the fact that the two persons, longing, as all individuals do, to overcome the separateness and isolation to which we are all heir because we are individuals, can participate in a relationship that, for the moment, is not of two isolated selves but a union. It takes effort,. But, worth the work. Your poems on such familial hardships speak of a too common a ground today. Very relatable. Thanks. G

Been there, with families and others...you sometimes just have to gut it out and wait. People do return in their own time and for their own reasons and maybe all we can do is be there when they do.
