She Wanted to Be

by Joe Cramer

She wanted to be much more than she was

But the words somehow got lost inbetween.

Her succinct answer was always "because

Things are just never the way they seem."

I often thought that she was the one for me

I always wanted more than she could give.

She had a closed mind that was never free,

One day I realized that we could never live

Together, or perhaps even married.

She wanted soemone else, anyone else.

In my heart, her memory I have carried.

I longed for this love, just placed on a shelf,

All I have left now is the memory

Of love lost, love found, love never to be.

Author's Note: ... the couplet at the end of this sonnet says it all for me... and for you....
