of his life

by Emily Davidson

i used to be
admired
by him
desired
by him
it was like
i was the light
of his life

but now
i am his worst
chore, his greatest
inconvenience, his
most aching headache,
[and as much as it pains me
to say it] his
ball and chain

he is not afraid to lose me
in fact
i think he looks forward to the liberation
