I painted a self-portrait.

It was an ink-spot,
in the middle of a water-damaged
page of college ruled
notebook paper.

I had written
'dear j.' on the top line,
and signed
'always yours,
v.'
on the bottom,
and the portrait hovered
in between the two,
suspended by the blue lines.
