Kids don't know
the depth of the ocean
or if their breath can
carry them back to land
or how easy it is to drown
or never learn how to stand.
Kids don't know
it's only a matter of weeks
before catastrophe #1 touches down,
when they'll turn to loud music
and louder poems,
louder than their own internal monologue,
screaming maturity.
Some kids know geometry,
but put one on a two-way street,
say "You can only go forward,"
