Wished

by Jason Wardell

I wished
for strength
and the wish
took substance,
took flight,
took off.

Above the city
it collected,
it gained mass
and it fed
on stray wishes,
insomniac wishes,
desperate wishes.

A million wishes
taking substance,
taking shape,
moving beyond wish,
attracting prayer,
hope, longing,
deep, dark
desire.

And the wish
grew and covered,
engulfed the city,
engulfed the state,
engulfed the country,
continent, hemisphere,
the entire world,
the solar system,
galaxy, universe,

space,

time

.

And the wish

was in everything

and everything

was in the wish.

And the wish,

taken substance,

taken mass,

taken every single

stray,

insipid,

inspired

wish

dispersed
because it was a wish.

Author's Note: Tired of staring at it in my notebook; I'll let you stare at it instead. :)

I'd say those are some pretty reasonable demands. Very nicely done, sir.

i still wish on the first two stars i see at night (yes, first two...i figure it couldn't hurt). they have to come true.

And stare I did. I really like how this reads.
