I Wish I was a Texas Poet

by Alison McKenzie

Long teenage nights spent
Trying to get at the beer,
Hankering after the beauties,
Growing into love the old fashioned way,
Shaping the young minds from a chalkboard,
Soaking up the reflection of grandchildren,
Lamenting the relentless march of time in age.

Instead, I’m just a small-town wannabe,
Driving into the big city every now and then,
Attending class mid-way
Through a womanhood
Just to try and get it right!

this is getting so fun to find these poems, all of them, and like a signature, each thread is a tale and journey within, all its own ...lovely addition to the wishing well...hugs, jewels
