Unborn by Nancy Ames"We live beneath the dome
and try to generate
the power for our home
and something on our plate.
My Mum says there's a place
where you can see so far,
and turn your happy face
toward a twinkling star.
I know I'm not too big
but I have got a friend,
and one day we will dig
a tunnel to the end.
Then we will go and see
and we will stand and walk -
one moment running free
means more than all this talk." 01/25/2009
Author's Note: The child who is speaking represents the reaction of youth against the tendency toward over-protectiveness in society, which is a sort of reversal of birth, up to and including the concept of a futuristic dome enclosing civilization.
