"Tea-time, Worthless in Repeating"

by Cristy M.

We add and subtract our fancies
counting tiny teaspoons and sugarcubes
on our table
staring, wordless into a fleeting backdrop
of our abandonless twenties,
cupping our hands and dropping on them
our rotten, wrinkling faces
wasting this precious season
in battling armaments of lessthantrivial conversation

In all of this idleness, is supposed
the greatness of our relationships
that's, at this point, more than thrice-removed

and my lips are chapped
from all the boredom of it.

Must I leave the parlor
for all of this to stop?

"and my lips are chapped from all the boredom of it."--Careful they don't crack. Heh. My favorite image in this thing. Great work.

wow girl, I love this, the candor, the imagery, the implications...this piece reaches out and cups our thoughts, knowingly...so many lines to love, truly, but a fav part for me is: "staring, wordless into a fleeting backdrop/ of our abandonless twenties,/ cupping our hands and dropping on them/ our rotten, wrinkling faces"...so much captured here, so much said and not...well done, my pleasure to read and read again...peace, jewels
