giving in but not giving up

by Sandy M. Humphrey

pretense or illusion
things are not always what they seem
could our actions in the light of day
be misconstrued as duplicitous

moonlight streaming through a window
softens images and melts barriers
half lit faces cannot reveal the secrets
buried and protected

intensity replaces insensitivity
as the space between is crossed
no longer on the other shore
the ocean of indifference we surf

crashing together in the waves
of arms and legs swimming for
survival finally we drift
each in our own realm

no answers found
no destinations reached
just rest from the search
synchronized breathing for a moment

and as we lay so very
still and motionless
pondering what just happened here
in the morning it will not be

any more clear
sometimes
all it is
is what it is

nothing more

Pretense or illusion will do that to you. Heh. Awesome work, especially in that fourth stanza.

...this is kick-**^%$ too much sandy, a healthy write...

Ah Sandy, this is a great write. You visualize reality as if you've been there. I really like this.

Excellent, Sandy. This runs parallel to so many of my own thoughts. And I think sometimes, I do not even want to understand, I only want to feel; often life and relationships like art itself seems not to tolerate reason very well. Delighted. Thanks. Fav++.

God, how absolutely true. And this poem comes in steps, one step at one time yet without stalling or faltering, just leading into the truth that all it is is what it is. I love it.

(am thought-captured by it, is most accurate!)

Wonderful imagery to match a wonderful meaning. Enjoyed this very much!
