amen

by Katie Dean

send out your feelers and
let me in
you reach out and break
and
hop to the shower on one leg
a dog barks
brakes screech outside
the pipes are frozen and the ceiling is leaking
i can hear
the vents shuddering and you whisper,
"exhale"

there's a framed picture of audrey hepburn on my floor
the glass is broken but i've kept it
and
hop to the kitchen on one leg
i am tired, you say
there's no such thing i say
help me and you say
i can't i say
give me a piggy back ride you say
i am too tired

this is not the end you say
i should know better than you
with your dirty fingernails and your
sly smile and i say
i want to fall

Harrowing stuff. I really liked this.

The want of falling was almost a relief after the strain in a waining wander. Well done.
