Winter's Symbolism

by Jeffrey Parren

is it odd
that i want to stay in
all the time
during the cold winter months?

i find myself
out and about
as much as the sun is
during the summer

and the dreary cold
locks me indoors
while adding
thirty to forty pounds

making me sluggish
and tired all the time
wanting to hibernate
and awake shadow free.

winter's symbolism
strikes almost yearly
and I am hoping
all goes well

and no one close
has to say farewells
far too soon
but maybe

a quick "see ya"
to the winter
and all its sadness
with whites not so innocent.

Some pretty strong symbolism indeed. Very, very nicely done, too.

Good write Jeffrey. Just remember that below the snow lie the beginnings of rebirth and hopefully the muse will push us to new words, and new ideas.
