The Longing

by Thomas K. Hunt

I’d be smiling from ear to ear
If I could just get out of here
See my breath out on Mary Street
I’d kiss the ground underneath my feet
Another day to take the robin around
Hey Joe, let’s have another round
Before we hit the other side of town
This is where I want to be

Place me at Potters for a day
Cut through the calm over French Creek Bay
Get the hotel rockin with a Wednesday night band
Walk down Riverside hand and hand
Get in nine at the triple C
You’ll have to hold it till the number five tee
Hey old timer pass me the puck
I need to get home and get my lady to …..

Kicking back is what I’d do
Have a laugh and a drink or two
Hello Darlin, I look like a fool
Hurricane survivor that acts like a tool
Way past alright way beyond being cool
That’s just Uncle Mike
Tears in Manhattan are nothing new
Past the point of seeing more than two
Keep that rock glass out of my sight
Kiss a hubcap and say goodnight

Old friends that are miles away live close within my heart
Smiling eyes that give it away have been there from the start
Visions from my daily thoughts visit in the day
Faces from my past haunt the night while I’m away
Years of growing
Years apart
Yet close as close can be

I like that ending a lot. Very nice.
