by Frankie Sanchez

it's just after midnight
and from the mouth of my bedroom window
i can hear the world scream,
sounds like sirens,
sounds like the sky exhaled,
sounds like the cork popped
at the end of a two thousand and nine year tunnel
and the echo resonates,
we've waited a long time for this,
it's just after midnight
and from the mouth of my window
i can hear the world promise,
a resolution so bold
it sounds like every clock in the universe
stopped.
and then started again,
it's just after midnight
and from the pane of my window
i can hear the end and i can hear the beginning,
sounds like newborns,
sounds like the wind on the first day it met tree branches,
sounds heavy like a cold engine on a december morning,
i can hear both end and beginning,
and they met somewhere in the middle
with promise.

This really captures the moment of that tiny shift in time last night, very well written, with that energetic spontaneity that marks a good poem. Happy New Year to you.

what a life-giving way to envision the new years potential. outside the window, it all goes down. i tend to hermit on new years eve and i am wondering if you weren't doing the same. staying inside and hoping the outside will change...that's life sometimes isn't it? we all dream a little more when we're forced to pay attention. hopefully your clocks are right. well done frankie...a slight change of pace from your typical style i think, but welcomed and very brightly done, in a chilly...strong way.

A little Bukowski like: a man alone in his room, pondering the moment in the night. Well done.
