Ode to Winter

by Joe Cramer

The cold creeps in

and tickles my bones.

It won't leave me alone.

My hands are numb,

my mind undone.

This cold whispers

against my frozen ear.

This I fear

will be my demise.

My eyes

weep a tear,

or two

as I stamp my feet.

I feel the flu

coming on,

making this malaise complete.

Cold wind does blow,

this much I know

to be my end

as I begin

to freeze.

My knees shake,

feet quake

in my shoes

as the blues

take over my lips.

This coldness numbs

while my thumbs

bend crookedly

as I try to warm

my frost bitten form.

The cold creeps

into my bones,

my soul.

I am so very cold.
