darkness of the heart

by Peter Humphreys

is there
a cure for
this darkness
of the heart

they tell me
to forget the past
live the now
and
embrace the future
but
where does that leave me
the past contains
unspeakable pain
and the future
a terrible prospect

no
I walk a line
along the sand
where seagulls shriek
and the wind
obliterates my steps

yes
to Mayo go
when all else fails
and on an Erris shore
I am complete
as no-where else
40 years a salving
this is my present
my past
my future
a curlew's cry
from heaven

I'd say you're doing a pretty good job walking that line though. Nicely done, man.

Such a wonderful write Peter. I'd like to say that I understand but if I do I'd not be telling the truth. For who amongst us knows the other. I see the darkness ahead and feeling it reaching for me. The past such a mix of pleasure and pain I'm not sure which asked for most. For most things in life have their opposite. Knowing my past many would reject me so I try to reject no one. I know what rejection is. I reach out a hand to you and would walk that line with you any way I might. Again wonderful write.
