Familiar Quotations

by Melissa Panther

This is most peaceful,

Most profound

When I stand in your silence

And take in your stillness

You reach with your

Heart in hand

Pushing and pressing at shyness

There’s no strategy in my intensity

This is not kitchen table wisdom

It’s raw and part of a larger memory

Forget still life and the black and blue

It’s all in the first five pages

In the corridor, moments, moments

Slip and spill

There are particles of your soul

That long, live and would love

To feel it all entirely and to the end

There’s no mistaking

Stand or fall

I love the honesty that courses through this. Everything seems to be brought down to its essentials. Awesome stuff.

I see the juxtaposition of shyness and intensity causing conflict but with an overwhelming desire to connect, to communicate. Poem is rich with analogy and description.

"part of a larger memory" Speaks volumes of volumes without speaking them. The title doesn't encompass the entirety of the piece. It's quite and evocative piece. Thanks for this.
