inches from perfection

by Aaron Michael

i will smile in your face
every time you allude
it's not good enough
pick up the pieces you're left with
and try to make the world look perfect.
anyone who thinks that way
never had a trial worth trying
to get through
and that's a shame.

the best price often leaves you
wanting. as does the worst priced, and
all those time magazine articles
that drip with the essence of a voyeur
watch and learn
it works being vicarious

i wish it were true. i'd kill for it
to be true, but anyone that's been
where no one else wants to be
comes out stronger, smarter, wiser,
or dead.
and the dead are perfect.

i have been three inches away from perfection,
and i have everything still to learn.
