The Very Last Christmas Song Ever

by Mike Loftis

Verse 1
I read it in the news this morning
It came as a big surprise
As soon as I read
The big guy was dead
Tears started filling my eyes

Chorus 1
Santa’s not coming this Christmas
No reindeer pulling his sled
No Christmas cheer
For me this year
‘cause poor Old St. Nick is dead

Verse 2
It must have been the milk and cookies
That made him so very fat
They said it was his heart
they could not restart
and he went just like that

Chorus 2
Santa’s not coming this Christmas
No reindeer pulling his sled
No Christmas cheer
For anyone this year
‘cause poor Old St. Nick is dead

Verse 3
Way up north the elves are mourning
You almost can hear their sobs
They’ve all had the blues
since they got the news
that they all just lost their jobs

Chorus 3
Santa’s not coming this Christmas
No reindeer pulling his sled
No Christmas cheer
this or next year
‘cause poor Old St. Nick is dead

This feels oddly like a Warren Zevon song, which, I assure you, sir, is a good thing.

A very sad ballad. I'd like to hear this sung by a blues artist. Won't be popular with the kids! LOL!!
