I Dare You

by John D Uzzell

Everyone tells me to write a different way
But why should I change what I do?
Everyone wants me to write the way they want
But why, I didn’t write it for you!!!!

I write for myself, to express how I feel
I write to tell what I think
To express my love, to show my contempt
To understand, to know, to find the missing link.

If you don’t like it, I couldn’t care less
Just turn the page and go on to something else
If you can’t understand it, think harder about what you see
You’re the one that ends up with less

So read it if you will, you can see a bit of what I think
I can give my opinion about anything I want
Turn the page go right ahead, I really don’t care
Lets see you write something, are you up for the dare?

What you say may be true but hopefully if you write about love it is not just for you that you write, but to her/him. If about contempt you write to whom do you write? I would never try to tell someone how to write poetry. I need all the help I can get. But I've started to think about why I write and I'd like the audience to hear what I try to say and why I say it.
