Brick

by David Garner

Just one pillow on her bed ... and just one desire in her heart!
Ladies and not so gentle men, I present to you my wife, my Maggie the Cat.
I may be impeded by a drink and by a crutch,
But look at her red belt and the ice cream on her stockings.
She even has a funny color of dark blue and dark black hair. Lois Lane would be jealous of my Maggie's soft and supple lines.
I play my crutch like it's a rifle.
And she catches me in the reflection of her always-used mirror of always-used betrayal.
"Why you looking at me like that?"
And I just lie here on the couch.
My silk pajamas on my skin.
Today's a good day.
She may be talking loud,
My leg don't itch inside this cast.

Heh. That's a hell of a portrait you've painted. Very well done indeed.

Humorous look at bachelorhood and being "laid up".
